From two contiguous lieu dit villages parcels (les Murailles du Clos, les Violettes) along the southern wall of the Clos de Vougeot, this one has been a pet favorite of mine since I started working with the Sirugues four years ago. It has a Vosne Romanée/Echezeaux meets Clos de Vougeot character, with deeper implosive material/minerality/structure (à la Clos de Vougeot) along with the explosive spiciness and blue fruited charm of Vosne/Echezeaux. This year’s is once again tremendous, only my allocation is down, big time….apparently, the Sirugues realized how under priced this little gem is, with the price rising 34% ex-cellars!!! Ouch!…”A bit more closed/reticent aromatically, with a different savory undertone than the regular villages. Then a pure, bright, powerfully implosive mineral beam does the impossible implosive/explosive flavor dance of gorgeously pure dark red fruits and spice. This is simply delicious, complex, and complete…”. Another little * awarded here. Get what you can, allocation tweezers likely needed….this wine had the steepest price increase, 34%! OUCH.
