2014 Melsheimer Reiler Mullay-Hofberg Sekt Brut Nature

2014 Melsheimer Reiler Mullay-Hofberg Sekt Brut Nature

$39.00

Description

Aged for some 7-8 years on the lees prior to disgorgement, this is a knockout in its class, complexity, and sheer deliciousness. For the money, this is ridiculously good……a blend of 60/40 Pinot Noir/Riesling, this has super fine mousse, and a level of complexity that one would be hard pressed to rival from anywhere in the world for this kind of money. Trust me, if you love great Champagne/sparkling wine in general, get a 6pk/case of this and thank me later. It simply doesn’t get better than this…!!! A little * awarded here.

“The 2014 Brut Nature, as it is referred to on the front label, was made from Spätburgunder (60%) and Riesling (40%) harvested in the Reiler Mullay-Hofberg. It was spontaneously fermented in old Fuder, before being bottled on September 10, 2015 (the date is provided on the back label) and was refermented and aged on its lees in bottle, and was then disgorged without dosage on July 28, 2022 (the disgorgement date is provided on the back label). Already yellow-gold in color, the nose offers superb complexity with secondary development notes of bitter orange, dried apricot, fine white mushroom, leather, nutmeg, cinnamon, and gingerbread. The wine has great play and complexity on the palate, where the bubbles prove still quite active and give plenty of freshness. Notes of acacia, pine, and a fine touch of caramel are wrapped in nervy and playful spicy, salty, and minty notes of caraway and lime. This impressive Sekt, which has already mature notes, still needs a year or two to integrate its mousse and fully shine. 2024-2029” 93 Mosel Fine Wines
