Description

As I had mentioned earlier in the Rosé de Maturation description, I am a big fan of pinpoint precise, treble nature of the 2013 vintage, from a long and cool growing season. Among producers who get good natural ripeness in their grapes (of which Larmandier is at the top of the class), this combo of natural sappiness and brightness is my cup of tea and then some. After the 2012 was awarded with the highest rating of the vintage in the Revue du Vin de France, I was of the first people in the world to offer the wine. For this 2013, which isn’t to be commercially released until September, I am the first person in the world to offer the wine, Sophie graciously giving me the green light to do so yesterday…..In power and complexity, this stands as one of the benchmark bottlings of Grand cru Blanc de Blancs at its finest. Just as I had mentioned last year, this will be the best price that you will see stateside on this one…..

“The 2012 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Les Chemins d’Avize is another powerful, deep wine that needs time in the glass to be at its best. In fact, the 2012 was not really fully expressive until it had been opened for about 24 hours. There is an inherent depth to the 2012 that just needs time to emerge. With air, the 2012 is broad and expansive, with the layers of fruit intensity and tension that are such signatures of Pierre and Sophie Larmandier’s very best wines. What a gorgeous Champagne this is. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged: March 2018.” 94 Antonio Galloni for the 2012, NOT THE 2013 OFFERED HERE

“Disgorged in March 2018 to be released later this year is the 2012 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Les Chemins d’Avize, an impressive wine that wafts from the glass with scents of almond paste, pear, lemon and crushed chalk that are gently wood-inflected at this early stage, though I expect that will be hard to discern with a few more months on cork. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, rich and textural, with a deep and multidimensional core and a precise, lively finish. I’m looking forward to revisiting it.” 96+ William Kelly for the 2012, NOT THE 2013 OFFERED HERE
