Cofermented with a small amount of Viognier, the entry level Cote Rotie from Vernay is class in a glass. The ’13 vintage is perfect for the Vernay sensibility, favoring precision and delicacy over raw power/concentration. This will evolve beautifully!!!
Here is Josh Raynolds’ review:
“Bright violet. Focused, high-pitched black raspberry and floral scents are complemented by suggestions of smoky minerals and Asian spices. Juicy and energetic on the palate; alluringly sweet red and dark berry liqueur flavors are given zesty lift and spine by tangy acidity and a repeating mineral note. Smooth, slow-building tannins shape the impressively persistent, spice-tinged finish. This elegant wine should be approachable on the young-ish side but has the depth and balance to age.” 93 points
