Description

A showcase for the duality of their finest old vine Chardonnay (with some 30% of it being the Muscaté clone) grown on chalky fine clay soils in the lieu dit les Chemins d’Épernay meets old vine Pinot Noir on silex (flint) and limestone, and schist in the rich soils of the lieu dit les Rouges Maisons, both in their hometown of Chavot. This is aged for an additional two years on the lees for greater vinousness and complexity. This sounds positively outstanding as well……How can one go wrong with any of these?? Moreso a question of preferences, as well as the joy of diversity, each beauty worth celebrating in its own right….this one is actually classified among the “Special and Original Cuvées”, as it is not from a single vineyard, rather two…But I consider it on the same tier as the Terroir Fundamentals, so I included it here….GO FOR IT……

“The 2012 Extra Brut Les Empreintes is yet another compelling wine in this range Aurélien Laherte. Radiant and super-expressive on the palate, with tremendous richness, the Empreintes dazzles from start to finish. Bright saline notes add tension to the sculpted finish in a Champagne that delivers the goods big time. Les Empreintes is a blend of 50% Pinot Noir from Les Chemins d’Epernay planted in 1957 and 50% Chardonnay from Les Rouges Maisons, both in Chavot, planted in 1957 and 1983 respectively. In a word: superb. Dosage is 4 grams per liter. Disgorged: January 2018.” 95 Antonio Galloni
