This is sourced from two parcels 100% in Pignan, in Chateauneuf”s cooler northern sector; this is where Chateau Rayas is located (half of Rayas is in Pignan). The wines from this area are perhaps the most balanced and finessed in all of Chateauneuf, the truest expression of the ”pinot of the south” that Grenache can indeed be.
Mounir set out to make a wine of Chambolle Amoureuses like proportion, and as I listened to the gorgeous rising finish in this wine that seemed to go on endlessly, I could only conclude that he has succeeded. This wine is scheduled to be bottled in the fall, nearly three years after its harvest, whole cluster fermented, aged in three single large demi muids, with the same long lees aging regimen that is part of the Lucien LeMoine vinification style. With the exception of Rayas and Bonneau, I have never tasted a Chateauneuf of this stature, in the Burgundian vein. Mind blower and then some…..
