  • Here's the Burghound review: 'This has turned out to be noticeably better than I imagined that it would be with its extremely fresh nose of ripe and very pretty red pinot fruit aromas liberally laced with warm earth and underbrush notes that carry over to the moderately structured middle weight flavors that already display reasonably good depth and fine length on the beautifully balanced finish. This is finer than the '09 version if not quite as ripe. Definitely worth a look.' 91 points 'sweet spot' selection Perhaps one of the finest reds made in the Cote Chalonnaise in 2008.  This is simply a stunningly good value in Burgundy.

  • Just lovely. Bright, citric, with good enrobing richness to harmonize with its driving, mouth watering acidity. If I could buy 10 cases of this, I would. Alas.... Arrives late Fall '16. Allan Meadows' review: "Here too there is enough wood to notice on the pretty nose that actually closely resembles that of the La Combe. The rich, round and utterly delicious middle weight flavors that possess both good volume and punch, all wrapped in a clean and dry finale. This is a quality Rully villages. 88/2018+"
  • This is a step up in structure and implosive seriousness. This one will age impeccably as it has everything that it needs to be a seriously complete wine of fascinating evolution. It is hard not to "get it" when this is in your glass; packed and stacked!!
  • Both of these cuvées have the hallmark powerful mineral spine of great Chénas, with the Boccards being a bit more succulent, charming, and airy. Their dark black fruited profile is particularly intense in '14, with awesome density allied to freshness. This is about as good as it gets to my taste.....
  • Once again, I am befuddled and grateful that I have such a large allocation of this rarity, the last Rully rouge wine that Vincent presents in tasting, a wine that routinely rings my bell as one of the finest made in all of the Côte Chalonnaise. I have started a small fan club for this wine, I think, people taking my cues over the past two vintages, and liking what they have found....From 65 year old vines in one of Rully's finest sites, my note: "Class! This is at once quite powerful in pure dark fruits and savory flavors, yet mineral and fine. So complete and classy...". Once again my friends, take my advice, get 6-12 of these, and thank me later. Chapeau Vincent!! "A slightly more subtle but hardly invisible lashing of oak still easily allows the spicy combination of earth, red pinot, dark currant and game aromas to shine. There is fine richness but also very good delineation to the medium-bodied flavors that display a hint of minerality on the youthfully austere, balanced and impressively persistent finish. 90/2020+"
  • A similar architecture to the En France, but with an even stonger sense of counterbalancing cut and punchy minerality. This is because the vines are a bit older and the calcaire more decomposed, allowing the vines to get up in there.....once again, very very good. "(from well-drained 60-year-old vines planted on calcaire ebouillé and marl soil with a clay underpinning--Barraud referred to it as "very complete soil"; all done in fûts, 20% new but most of the rest recent): Full medium yellow. Highly complex scents and flavors of vineyard peach, preserved lemon and grapefruit, plus a riper suggestion of mirabelle. Compellingly rich, fine-grained and deep, conveying a strong impression of terroir in spite of its full alcohol. Finishes dusty and long, with great finesse, sexy minerality and a touch of citrus lift. A very elegant, strong Pouilly-Fuissé." 90-92 points Steve Tanzer
  • Everything that I tasted in '15 red from Vincent had me in yum yum fits. I gave every single red wine a litte *, they were that compelling as an ensemble, all 8 of them...if I could offer the others, I would!!! The En Guesnes had the hedonistic density and succulence of the year, with its telltale clay soiled lightly chewy texture. It had an explosive sense of spiciness and dark red fruits that was just plain deeelicious. Once again, just as last year, this is a delight....get what you can, and thank me later.
  • Wow. This one really stood out to me, with another level of balance, complexity, and precision. This is once again a terrific success, as it has been in every vintage I have worked with. A little star * awarded here.
  • Julien's Fleurie is always higher toned and implosive relative to the sappier and denser Morgon. It sounds as though this should bring extra sappy 2015 depth to that same high toned airy personality i've come to expect. In my experience, it is a toss up of personal preference whether tasters prefer the airier and more mineral qualities of the Fleurie vs the succulence and depth of the Morgon.....both are beauuutiful. "The 2015 Fleurie from Julien Sunier is notably light in color for the vintage, with a classic ruby red color, rather than the purple tones that are so typical in 2015. The wine is 13.5 percent octane and offers up a bright and vibrant bouquet of cherries, pomegranate, a touch of nutskin, beautiful soil tones, hints of mustard seed and thyme and a very discreet bass note of oak spice. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and more emblematic of the vintage than the nose suggests, with a plush core of fruit, a good dollop of soil, a touch of backend tannin and a long, focused and complex finish. This is a very successful 2015 that stays admirably light on its feet. 2016-2025. 92." John Gilman
  • His Morgon has proven flat out terrific and classic in every vintage that I've tasted. Sounds like the '15 is a knockout! Get what you can, and thank me later..... "Julien Sunier has not been making wine here in Beaujolais for all that long a time, but he is quickly becoming one of my absolute favorite sources for classic, cellar-worthy Morgon. His 2015 version is excellent, showing off the sappy fruit of the vintage to fine effect in its deep and complex bouquet of black cherries, plums, really lovely spice tones, violets, granitic soil tones, hints of the gamebird to come and a very gentle touch of oakiness from the older Burgundy casks the wine is raised in. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and full-bodied, with a sappy core,excellent focus and grip, ripe, moderate tannins and outstanding length and grip on the nascently complex and impeccably balanced finish. This is 13.5 percent alcohol, which is perhaps a touch higher than the 2014 version was, but this is a very sophisticated interpretation of Morgon and could just as easily have hailed from any number of recent, top flight vintages, as the fingerprints of 2015 are not very easy to find in the glass. A superb wine that is approachable today, but will be far better to drink after a few years in the cellar. Chapeau! 2017-2050. 94." John Gilman

The roughly 65 year+ old vines here are planted on schist, with pieces of decomposed volcanic rocks referred to as "roche pourrie" (rotten rock) which regularly yield a more powerful and spicy wine, with a pronounced mineral core. This is textbook Côte de Py meets the Desvignes house style. Class and classic. "Bright magenta. Sexy, mineral-laced raspberry, cherry and blood orange aromas show excellent clarity and a suave Asian spice nuance. Lithe, sappy and floral on the palate, offering vibrant red berry, spicecake and rose pastille flavors that show excellent delineation. The mineral quality comes back strong on the energetic finish, which is framed by smooth, harmonious tannins." 93 Josh Raynolds
  • A rarity indeed, this is their burgundy-in-beaujolais-clothing best, dubbed the "unrepentants". This is from a small parcel within the Javernières lieu-dit, from 100+ year old vines. I have never had a chance to taste this, as I was shot down in both the '14 and '15 vintages. This year, I got the early bird worm......get what you can, and thank me later. !!! "Deep ruby. An expansive, smoke-tinged bouquet evokes fresh red/blue fruits and candied lavender, complemented by suggestions of peppery spices and a hint of cured meat. Densely packed, focused black raspberry, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors show excellent clarity. Conveys a suave blend of power and elegance, revealing no rough edges on the strikingly long, youthfully tannic finish." 94 Josh Raynolds
